Information for teachers visiting the museum with students
Since it opened its doors to the public in February 2000, the Erich
Kästner Museum has welcomed more than 20.000 visitors, amongst
them about 1.800 students. The students come from Dresden and its
surroundings, the visit being part of their German classes, as well
as from other parts of Germany, adding the visit to their program
in Dresden.
To guarantee that the mobile interactive micromuseum is really interactive,
we continue our project Zeitzeugen Kids read Kästner.
This lively project allows the young visitors not only to freely
explore the museum, but also to leave a notice of their visit in
the real and virtual exhibition rooms. Kästner texts can be
read, recited or performed, and will be caught on video and audio
tapes. We invite school classes to an active visit to the museum,
to a different German class in the Villa Augustin, and to add contents
to our museum.
Each group may nominate students in advance to choose and read excerpts
from children´s novels or poems by Erich Kästner. A lively
collage of Kästner´s work will be created slowly, that
will be of interest for future generations as well.
A guided tour of the museum without participation in the project
is of course just as possible as an own project (e.g. with worksheets
please consult our staff) or readings.
As a help for a guided tour of Kästner´s Dresden you
can purchase a "City Walk" in the museum.
A visit to the museum with students is only possible on Thursdays
from 10 to 18 h. Reservations have to be made well in advance!
Admission is Euro 0,50 per student/ teacher/ attendant.
Each group will be guided.
A limit of 12-15 students per group is essential.
(For bigger groups there is the possibility to combine a visit to
the museum with a walk around Kästner´s Dresden.)
Thus the atmosphere created allows more intimity and concentration.
The museum´s contents can be used more actively and intensely.
However, participation of the class as a whole in readings and lectures
is possible, of course.
The museum staff will be glad to agree on a day for your visit
well ahead and is eager to help you prepare and organize your stay.
For your preparations with the students please keep in mind, that
a museum where books and technology are to be used has to be handled
with some care.
